Welcome to a day in the life of a camper at YMCA Camp Kitaki! This page will share information on what its like to spend a day at camp, including the schedule, lodging, meals, and activities. Enjoy!

Polar Bears

#
The first activity of the day is an optional dip in the Camp Kitaki Pool. Those brave enough to go every day are rewarded with a certificate at the end of the week. Those who don't wish to go can sleep in a little more!

Flag Ceremonies

#
A Cabin Group helps with Morning Flag
Campers participate in helping to raise and lower the flag every day at the all camp ceremony.

Chapel

#
Camper's watch a play during morning Chapel
Campers visit Chapel every morning. There we sing songs, watch plays, hear stories and learn about the YMCA values of Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility.

Meals

All meals at camp are served Family Style with campers sitting with their cabin group and counselors. Campers are assigned to help set up and clean up after meals by serving as "Tablehoppers" for their cabin.

Meals also include announcements, and fun visits from the Camp Kitaki Sheriff, and the Newsguy to keep us up to date on what is going on in the world. Of course a zany song finishes each meal!
Special meals are served during the week including a cabin cookout, a picnic lunch, breakfast served at the cabin, and a chuck wagon meal!

Clubs - For Summer Camp Program Only

Banana Boats#
Preparing "Banana Boats" on an open fire
Mornings for Summer Campers are spent in Clubs, focused activities that zero in on things of interest for each camper. Campers sign up for these activities the first day of camp. Three choices allow for lots of variety with fun clubs like Archery, Great Lakes, Weird Science, Outdoor Skills, and Wacky Water!

Rest Hour

We want to make sure everyone is ready for all of the adventures they face throughout a day at camp. So everyday from 1 - 2 pm is Rest Hour. This is a quiet time that allows campers to relax, read a book, write home, or take a nap!

Juice Jam

#
There is nothing better in the middle of the afternoon then a refreshing drink of cold juice or gatoraide. At camp every afternoon features Juice Jam, a mid afternoon break in the shade featuring fun music, and the opportunity to rehydrate with your Juice Jam bottle. This is a great time for kids to see brothers and sisters in other cabin groups as well!

Afternoon Activities

Campers go with their Cabin Counselor to experience the activities that Camp Kitaki has to offer. For more information on those activities see our Summer Camp Activities Page.

Evening Activities

#
Campers play a game on Flat Top Hill during Evening Activities
Evening activities vary widely accross age ranges and camper program. They could be single cabin activities, like hikes and Mission Impossible, or they might include multiple cabins for games of capture the flag, or Muckman Suitcase. Some nights the entire camp gets together for special activities.

Campfire

#
Campers arrive for Campfire!
Campfire is one of the biggest traditions at Camp Kitaki. Held at a special location, Campfire consists of goofy songs, crazy skits, performances by campers, as well as some serious reflection. It is at Campfire that campers are first introduced to KnightQuest. It is an experience that is not soon forgotten!

Cabin Groups and Lodging

Campers are placed into cabin groups of other campers in the same program. These cabins are gender and age seperated. Each Cabin group has a Cabin Counselor that serves as their leader for the week, in addition each cabin may have another staff member or two and a member of our teen volunteer and leadership development program the Senior Kitaki Kids.

Cabin Groups are grouped together with 3-7 other cabins into Units of kids of similar age and program. Units are lead by a Unit Director who oversees the experience of each camper in their Unit.
