Dance Classes

Fun-filled choreographed 13 week dance classes for children ages 3 and up. All classes are followed by a dance recital all friends and family can enjoy. In all our dance classes, self expression is highly recommended. So get on those dancing shoes and join us for some fun.

Gymnastics Classes

The Cooper YMCA offers multiple levels of gymnastics classes from tumbling tykes through advanced levels of gymnastics.

Home School Gym

A fun, educational fitness program for kids ages 4-13 years old that will teach and encourage teamwork, self confidence, character building, and athletic skill development through the teaching of sports, games, and exercise.

Art and Music Classes

The Cooper YMCA offers art and music classes for children ages 1- 5.

Pint Size Picasso
This class offers children ages 3-5 a chance to explore their creative side through art. Parents are welcome to be a part of this class. Participants will paint, create and color in fun and exciting ways. Make room on your refrigerator for your child's artwork!

One, Two & You
This class is for children 1-2 years of age. This parent/child class offers activities including parachute fun, songs, finger plays, age appropriate crafts and games in the gym.

Wiggle & Squiggles
This class offers children ages 3-5 a chance to explore the world of music through singing, moving and playing. Participants will dance, move, color and play instruments while learning how music and movement work together.

Climbing Wall

The Cooper YMCA climbing wall has many opportunities for the basic climber to the most advanced climbers. The climbing wall is open for open climbing times each day, as long as the climbing wall class has been successfully completed. Climbers must be at least 5 years old. Minors must have a waiver signed by their legal guardian before climbing. Climbing times are listed in the information below.

Martial Arts

Hapkido
Hapkido or "way of unifying spirit", is a dynamic Korean martial art. It specifically emphasizes self-defense techniques based on three cardinal principles: Circular Motion, Water or Harmony and Non-resistance. Training in Hapkido is available to anyone 13 years and older. Hapkido is designed to defend close combat, using joint locks, pressure points and other dynamic techniques. Hapkido is taught through a partnership with Swanson's Tae Kwon Do Academy and the Lincoln Y.

Karate
Youth Class: The youth Karate class focuses on developing a child's physical skills, self-esteem, concentration and respect for others. Classes are challenging, yet enjoyable for each child. All skill levels are welcome.

Adult Class: Yee-Do-Vee-Fut is the combative form of Yee Chong Mu Gow. This style is a self-defense oriented system, focusing on the concept of close quarter combat. The training is mostly focused on the application of joint locks and effective control of an attacker. Many other avenues of defense are explored as well as grappling, throwing and the use of various weapons. It is a practical aproach system of defense, used for protection of yourself and others.

Philippine Combative
The Philippine Combatives style of martial arts consists of both weapons and empty hand training. This martial art style is also sometimes referred to as arnis, kali or ecrima. This style includes, but is not limited to, single-stick fighting, double-stick fighting, knife combatives and hand to hand combat. Philippine Combative is taught through a partnership with Swanson's Tae Kwon do Academy and the Lincoln Y.

Tae Kwon Do
Tae Kwon Do is the official martial art of Korea. Tae Kwon do is based on the premise of peace through strength of mind, body and spirit. Its emphasis is of the foot over the use of the hand in defending oneself and is internationally renown for its vertical and horizontal jumping techniques. Tae Kwon Do is taught through a partnership with Swanson's Tae Kwon Do Academy and the Lincoln Y.
