Fitness ProgramsDowntown YMCA Fitness Programs
Quick Fit CenterQuick Fit is a fun, non-intimidating 30-minute circuit workout. Users will alternate between strength and cardio stations, spending approximately 30-seconds at each station.Youth Fitness TrainingYouth fitness training is a perfect way for any child to get started towards their fitness goals. This class is for 12-14 year olds who are interested in keeping their bodies strong and healthy. The class will instruct on safety and proper techniques in using all workout area equipment, as well as discussion of character development, weight room etiquette, basic nutrition, and the effects of drugs, alcohol and smoking on the body.
Women's Fitness TrainingFinally, a class designed specifically for women. This 8 week course will provide instruction on the cardio equipment, machine weights, and free weights. Work out while socializing and learning the safe and proper techniques of using the equipment.This class will also teach the basic components of exercise, nutrition, and weight room etiquette. Exercise ProgrammingIf it's time for some new exercises and you're not sure how to "spice up your program," our Exercise Specialists can show you some alternative exercises and new ways to use the free weights, cardio and selectorized equipment. This one-hour consultation will give you the opportunity to discuss your current workout schedule and goals with an Exercise Specialist, who will help you, adjust your program to meet those goals. Included in your membership are: yoga, step, pilates, kick boxing, power pump, abs and back and many more. Group Cycling These classes are an anaerobic and aerobic workout on stationary bikes that simulate an outdoor bike. An instructor will motivate you through a great workout using a variety of music. We recommend signing up in advance to secure a bike for your participation. Group Water Reduce stress on joints by getting in the water. Choose between shallow, deep, combo, and walking classes to keep your workouts fun and invigorating. Water classes are great for rehabilitation and for cross training. Nutrition ProgrammingSign up today to meet one-on-one with a YMCA Nutrition Specialist for a nutrition analysis. Nutrition analysis includes a computerized dietary recall evaluation and consultation to discuss recommendations, questions and concerns regarding dietary habits. Additional services include menu planning and additional days of diet recall analysis.$15 for first consultation; $9 for follow up consultations. Martial ArtsThe Downtown YMCA offers martial arts classes which are free for members. Aikido is a Japanese martial art that attempts to defuse violence and aggression by blending and using the aggressors' energy against them. Aikijujitsu is a harder form of aikido. It consists of aikido throws and locks combined with jujitsu style strikes and some ground work.Karate and Self Defense Class Traditional Karate form exercises, Katas and self-defense techniques are used to introduce beginning students to martial arts. Individuals who are 14 or older will learn kicking, punching and joint locking techniques in an informal class setting. Students can wear comfortable exercise clothes or standard uniforms. Emphasis is placed on the practical application of striking and blocking techniques for self defense purpose. Boxing ClubThe YMCA Boxing Club is open to anyone age 12 and up. Beginners are welcome! Classes include intense amateur boxing instruction, conditioning, practice, and competition. No prior experience is required. Boxing promotes strength, endurance, coordination and self-discipline. Closely supervised sparring sessions are conducted for those that will be competing in amateur boxing. The coaches have over 25 years of experience in amateur boxing combined. For the "never done one" to "beginner" to "experienced" triathlete, learn the basics and training techniques that will help you excel. Gary Bredehoft, CSCS, has the knowledge and experience to coach and instruct you to your goals. Whether that would be to finish a sprint triathlon or compete at the Ironman level, he will give you the support you need to succeed.Marathon TrainingAnn Ringlein will guide you through the marathon training in a positive energetic way. Not only will you enjoy finishing a half or full marathon, you will enjoy the process!
