After School Clubs

YMCA Lefler After School Clubs are an extended school program at Lefler Middle School, created to improve student learning and development through academic support, physical fitness, character development, and enrichment activities. Any Lefler student may enroll in the afternoon program. Participants engage in daily academic support and supervised homework time and then select from multiple experiential learning opportunities throughout the week.

Academics
Time is set aside each day for students to work on homework and/or school endorsed academic supports as resources become available. The YMCA program's academic components are integrated with Lefler Middle School's daily curriculum. Our expected outcome is that our students increase their academic achievement and learning. Academic support is only offered in the P.M. program.

Fitness
Participants are provided opportunities to explore various recreational sports (soccer, basketball, running, volleyball, etc.), and taught healthy lifestyles, including nutrition and preventive lessons regarding the hazards of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs. Research indicates that healthy kids have higher self-esteem, perform better academically, and are less likely to experiment with drugs and alcohol. Our expected outcome is that our students will lead healthy, happy lives.

Character Development
YMCA core values - Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility - are taught with the expectation that all of our children be positive and contributing citizens. The Y program has also adopted the School Rules of "BE SAFE, BE RESPECTFUL, and BE RESPONSIBLE."

Enrichment Activities
Participants are presented opportunities to experience a full range of activities such as music, theater, creative thinking, language, science, etc. We believe that we should not set limits on an individual's imagination and will continue to seek opportunities to help broaden our youth's perspective on their own potential. Our expected outcome is that participants will be open to try new things and imagine themselves achieving in life.

Eligibility
Students enrolled at Lefler Middle School, who have completed the Lefler Community Learning Center enrollment form, are eligible to participate.

Program Meets
