Since its inception in 2021, nearly 950 swimsuits have been collected, benefiting over 1,000 youth enrolled in the Y's grant-based swim lessons
The YMCA of Lincoln is set to host its fourth annual community-wide swimsuit drive, May 8-22. This initiative aims to collect new and gently used swimsuits to support over 300 children enrolled in grant-based swim lessons this summer. These lessons, which are pivotal in teaching vital water safety skills, are made possible through a generous grant from Y-USA, in collaboration with Lincoln Public Schools and Lincoln Community Learning Centers.
“Two of the biggest barriers families face when wanting to provide swim lessons for their children are transportation and cost – both for the lessons and swimsuits,” shared Tabetha Burnham, aquatics director at the Northeast YMCA. “We’re thrilled to continue this tradition of fostering water safety and confidence among Lincoln’s youth, while instilling a sense of joy and empowerment in children.”
The community is invited to participate by donating swimsuits at any of the four Lincoln YMCA locations. Swimsuits in sizes ranging from school-age XS to XL for both boys and girls are in high demand (one-piece preferred). All swimsuits will be distributed to students attending Lincoln’s Community Learning Centers, with swim lessons beginning in early June.
As a token of appreciation, donors will be entered into a raffle to win one free session (six classes) of group swim lessons at the Lincoln YMCA, along with a free week pass to "Try the Y" or to share with a friend, family member, or colleague.
Drop-off Locations:
- Cooper YMCA – 6767 S. 14th Street
- Copple Family YMCA – 8700 Yankee Woods Drive
- Fallbrook YMCA – 700 Penrose Drive

In addition to swimsuits, the YMCA will also accept gift cards and monetary donations. These contributions can be dropped off at the Front Desk of any Lincoln YMCA branch or mailed to the YMCA of Lincoln: 570 Fallbrook Blvd, Ste 210, Lincoln NE 68521 (Memo: Swimsuit Drive).
