Membership Benefits

The following orientations and evaluation are included, FREE, with all YMCA memberships.

NEXT STEP Initiative
Are you looking for that NEXT STEP?
Whether you are just getting started or performing at a high level, the NEXT STEP Initiative will help you on your wellness journey. The Y is here day in and day out to assist in providing you the guidance and support you seek. Based on the wellness phase you are in, we can help you find the right orientations, classes, or programs to meet your needs.

Member Orientation
All new members are encouraged to attend the appointment. This session is to help reduce anxiety during new members' first days of participation and to help you feel comfortable using the YMCA facility. After becoming more familiar with what your needs are, our staff will assist you in scheduling fitness appointments and getting started in reaching your goals.

Selectorized Equipment Orientation
Learn how to correctly adjust each selectorized machine to fit your height and frame. A Wellness Specialist will discuss the benefits of strength training with you and will provide a basic schedule to follow on the equipment. You will also discuss the importance of flexibility.

Free Weight / Strength Training Orientation
Learn how to effectively and properly use the weights and receive a simple program to follow. Information on flexibility is included.

Quick Fit Studio Orientation
This is a 30-minute workout involving strength machines alternating with cardio stations. Schedule your orientation at the Service Center.

Cardiovascular Orientation
Explore the many options we have for cardiovascular exercise. Learn how to accomplish your goals, cross-train, and how to use the cardio equipment during this orientation. The Wellness Specialist will teach you how to use your heart rate to get the best out of your workout and will discuss the importance of warming up and cooling down and stretching.

Health Assessment
Measures cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength and endurance, flexibility, body composition, blood pressure and resting heart rate. Evaluation will take 30-60 minutes. Please wear shorts, t-shirt, and workout shoes. Before your evaluation avoid:
  1. Eating 2 hours before (including coffee and tea)
  2. Consuming alcohol 24 hours before
  3. Smoking 2 hours before
  4. Exercising before
Results are kept on file and we recommend retesting every 3-6 months to track results.
Program Information

Exercise Programming
If it's time for some new exercises and you're not sure how to "spice up your program," our Wellness Specialists can show you some alternative exercises and new ways to use the free weights, cardio and selectorized equipment. This one-hour consultation will give you the opportunity to discuss your current workout schedule and goals with a Wellness Specialist, who will help you adjust your program to meet those goals. Bring your current workout program with you to your scheduled appointment.
