| Q |
Who is Spirit Soccer for? |
| A |
Players and Coaches who have the dedication, time, skill, and desire to commit to a higher level of competition in the game of soccer. |
| Q |
What is the difference between Spirit and YMCA Recreational Soccer? |
| A |
Spirit Soccer is a more advanced League. Teams may practice more than once a week and may travel
out of town for some games or tournaments.
Spirit teams are based on a coach-select system. There are no tryouts, but coaches are able to
form their own teams. Individual registrations are encouraged, and Spirit Staff work hard to match
individual players with teams that need additional players.
Teams are arranged by birth date, rather than grade. We offer teams from U8 to U19 for boys and girls. Each player is registered with our state soccer association, NSSA.
Each player receives a player pass, which is necessary to participate in any games.
The soccer year is from fall to spring, so players are expected to remain on the same team for the year.
We offer an In-house League in which Spirit teams play each other. Teams may decide to travel at the U11 age and above. These teams travel to surrounding areas to compete
against other select teams and clubs.
A club fundraiser is done each fall season to help maintain our fields, to assist with
coaches training, to provide financial assistance for players and coaches, and to support our Player Development Program. |
| Q |
What is a Secondary Player? |
| A |
A secondary player is a player who can potentially play for your team but is registered primary with another Nebraska State Soccer Association (NSSA) affiliated team or club (YMCA Rec. teams do not
fall under this affiliation). Players become secondary after submitting a Secondary Player Form. The Secondary Form is official documentation used by the NSSA for record keeping and issuance of player passes. |
| Q |
Is it true that I won't be able to make my high school team if I play Spirit Soccer? |
| A |
NO, that is not true. Any good high school coach is not going to look at club affiliation as the single determining factor of whether or not the keep a player on their team. High school coaches will evaluate players based on a number of different factors such as: skill, commitment, work ethic, potential, etc. |
| Q |
Will I get quality coaching if I play Spirit Soccer? |
| A |
Spirit Soccer has made it one of their main goals to educate as many of their coaches as they can.
While not all Spirit Coaches will have additional certifications many have made the commitment
to further their education and knowledge of the game. Contact the Spirit Office if you wish to find out
