LINCOLN, Neb. — Just in time for the summer heat, all three of the YMCA’s Outdoor Pools are now open in Lincoln. Normally open Memorial Day Weekend, the YMCA chose to delay the opening of the pools for two additional weeks until Monday, June 8 to ensure the safety of its staff and members during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To allow for proper distancing, the YMCA has adjusted guidelines for its Outdoor Pools this summer. The pools will be operating in sessions to allow for deep cleaning every two hours. The session times are:

Monday-Friday: 12:00–2:00 p.m. | 2:30-4:30 p.m. | 5:00-6:30 p.m.

Saturday-Sunday: 12:00-2:00 p.m. | 2:30-4:30 p.m.

In addition, each of the three pools will have a maximum capacity of 70 Members in the pool area. Additional pool guidelines can be found at: www.ymcalincoln.org/outdoor-pool-guidelines.

“We know how important it is for families to have access to things like Outdoor Pools during the hot summer months,” commented Barb Bettin, President and CEO of the YMCA of Lincoln. “This year however, we needed to err on the side of safety to ensure that our facilities were equipped and our procedures were in place to have an environment that is as safe as possible for our members. With our adjusted guidelines and policies, we feel that families can now have access to an exciting summer activity while staying safe and healthy.”

The YMCA operates three Outdoor Pools in Lincoln including those at the Cooper YMCA (676 S. 14th Street), the Copple Family YMCA (8700 Yankee Woods Drive), and the Fallbrook YMCA (700 Penrose Drive).

The YMCA reopened four of its five branches on May 25 but chose to keep its Outdoor Pools closed to ensure spacing restrictions and policies could be in place to limit close contact with others in the pool area.

Outdoor Pool access is restricted to Lincoln YMCA Members only. Memberships can be purchased online at ymcalincoln.org or in-person at any Lincoln YMCA branch location. During the Month of June, new members may sign up with no initiation fee.
