About Pickleball
No matter the weather outside, you can play Pickleball inside!
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the United States. The game combines elements of badminton, ping pong, and tennis and can be played singles or doubles. Gather some friends or meet new players at a social drop-in session at the Y.
“It’s easy to learn. It’s much easier to play than tennis,” said Bill Roehrs, a USA Pickleball Association Ambassador who lives in Lincoln and has demonstrated the game at the Cooper YMCA. “Keeping track of the score is the hardest part of the game. To start out, just try to get the ball over the net.”
A former tennis player, Roehrs, 68, began playing pickleball after his shoulder replacement surgery. “I fell in love with the game,” he said. “It is very social. And it is less stressful on the body than tennis. It’s easy on the wrists. You don’t have to hold the paddle tight or hit hard.”
